75 Miles & 4,629 ft of Ascent
The views continue to be astounding, we went past waterfalls and stunning scenery. My advice on the midges, are don't stop, or if you do, put a midge net over your bike helmet (assuming you are wearing one) I stopped for about 3 nanoseconds and was surrounded, I put my net on and drank my coffee underneath it.
The road surfaces are certainly like nothing you would find in Central Spain, Mallorca, France. We were advised to put 30 or 32mm tyres on our bikes. I opted for 32 mm and was quite pleased I had, lets just say they are not the smoothest, the tarmac is quite lumpy in places, so good padding in the shorts needed and a good gel glove to take some of the vibration out of the wrists.
I'm having a day off the bike tomorrow in Ullapool and going out on a boat trip to hopefully see some of the local wild life. There a couple of laundry in Ullapool, I called yesterday and arranged to drop all my cycle stuff off when I get there, it's going to be washed and dried and dropped off at the Bed and Breakfast all nice and clean - What's not to like. (apart from the midges).
It's beautiful cycling, don't look at the tarmac in front of you, go slowly, look at the views, the birds, the heathers, the wildness and beauty of it
