Our time in Beal was absolutely delightful! 🥰 Sticky Toffee pudding for dessert last nite 😋😋. A nice breakfast before heading off inland to Innerleithen.
Oh my days a very tough day today, cool & dry with a 22mph head wind for some 65++ miles (104 km), with ascent of 3,760 ft (1,146 m) having to pedal down a hill because of the headwind quite novel 😱 🌬️🌬️🌬️🚴♀️. We did cycle a lot further than that, but I forgot to restart my watch 🥴 after the first stop!!
An eventful day 😳 A calf escaped its field this morning, we waited & followed slowly whilst the farmer tried to round it up on his quad bike.
Our 1st castle of the day was Norham Castle, crossing the river Tweed we passed from England to Scotland. Passed Kelso Race course & into lunch 😋
We passed the spectacular Kelso Abbey, founded in 1100 and listened to bagpipes 🥁🎼🎶.
Melrose was an interesting place, we managed to cycle round it twice 🤣🤣. Lovely Abbey where Robert the Bruce has his heart buried, the rest of him is in Dunfermline Castle 🤷♀️ .
I lost my two rear climbing gears - which certainly slowed me down. Problem now sorted thankfully.
Tbh, I had never heard of Innerleithen until I embarked on this trip. It's a lovely place, nestled in Tweedale within the Scottish Borders, it's surrounded by hills on all sides— given that this is a Peak Tours adventure, I would have been surprised if it weren’t! 😂
The River Tweed gracefully loops around the southern edge of the town, attracting numerous birdwatchers (twitchers) eager to spot Ospreys 🦅 and Sand Martins.
Innerleithen is also home to the Robert Smail's Printing Works, which is recognized as one of the oldest letterpress printers in the UK. Today, it operates as a living museum, showcasing the art of printing - who knew, everyday a school day.
Additionally, mark your calendars for June 1st, when the town hosts the Innerleithen Pipe Band Championships! 🤷🏻♀️

Surprised you haven’t heard of Innerleithen; as Rodney will tell you, Innerleithen and nearby Glentress are mountain bike Mecca!
