Innerleithen to Edinburgh

Published on 6 September 2026 at 12:56

Scotland is a cyclist's paradise. Each time I come, I find myself wishing I could extend my stay rather than head home. If you're a cyclist and haven't yet explored this beautiful Country, make sure to take on the NC500. For more details, check out my blog post The North Coast 500. It’s absolutely breath-taking!

If you're seeking a shorter ride, consider the E-tape, a one-day event on closed roads around the stunning Loch Ness. Who knows, you might even catch a glimpse of Nessie! πŸ₯°πŸ™„ or bring your gravel bike & explore some of the wonderful off road tracks - bliss πŸ₯°

If yesterday was tough, today was amazing 🀩. An easy climb of around 7 - 10 miles out of Innerleithen, mainly smooth roads, avoiding some the sheep was interesting as you never knew which way they were going to run! πŸπŸ‘πŸ™„. The view from the top was stunning 😍. Apart from a very short shower, the weather was fab, so hopefully the rain curse has moved elsewhere 😊

Including the climb we cycled just short of 40 miles (64. km) with 2,000 ft of ascent (614 m) we then headed downhill for the rest of the 40 miles into Edinburgh πŸ‘Œ

Since leaving Tynemouth, we’ve cycled approximately 200 miles (322 km) and ascended approx. 7,000 feet (2,139 m). We’ve indulged in far more calories than necessary, and we’re heading home happier—and probably a bit heavier—than when we started. πŸ™„πŸ€£πŸ˜‹

We have seen many Castles and Abbeys, some very imposing,  all very beautiful.

Thank you for being on this trip with me, I hope you enjoyed the descriptions and pictures. πŸ€—
