Our last day of the beaches; Omaha. We have visited Gold, Sword, Utah & Juno - if you haven't ever been to Normandy to visit the beaches. I can highly recommend it, doing it on a bike (gravel; MTB; e-bike; hybrid equally suitable) makes the whole experience even better π.
There are very many small memorials at the road side that we cycled passed, or off on tracks & side roads, like the one for the "filthy 13" (see picture) you would miss them if you were in a car or a coach π’.
We have cycled a total of 54.3 miles (87.4 kms) today with 1,900 ft ( 579m) of ascent . The trails, bike lanes & roads have generally been superb.
We stopped at the Maisy Battery and at a Military site, that was literally built & buried into the cliffs enroute to Omaha Beach.
The ride from the Maisy Battery to Omaha Beach on the bike paths at the top of the cliffs was amazing & very windy. Gravel bikes or MTB essential! Lunch in Omaha beach ποΈ (which looked beautiful in the sunshine).
We headed off back to Caretan stopping off at the German Military Cemetery on the way, some 20,000+ German soldiers are laid to rest there.
I've had two more people contact me on the Sailor & Nurse, thank you Bridget π. This couple certainly get around. This photo was taken in San Diego, California π₯°. Gill has also left a comment about having the picture on her bedroom wall for many years. Thank you for the feedback, it is much appreciated π₯°
