Some days start in the best of ways. I crept out of Kaz's Campervan this morning (trying hard not wake her up) to a beautiful sunrise & was promptly hit on the foot by an apple that fell from the tree next to us! π€¬π€¬
We rode a good 6 km before a rest was required & our first stop of the day for breakfast, delicious π₯ fully replenished off we went, to Juno & Gold beaches.
Incredibly emotional, totally at odds with the beautiful day & the fields of wheat & barley glowing in the sunshine.
Words cannot describe the emotions so I'll just put some photos below

Enjoy your days out I enjoy the read I bet it was emotional today
Hi Wendy. Very unusual for you to not be soaking wet π I wonder what Newton would think about the apple landing on your foot and not your head - it must have some.significance - perhaps the earth is flat after all πππ. Sounds such an emotional place but good for us to remember. Enjoy the cycling/food/campervan. Iβd keep your helmet on if I were you - just in case xxxx
Lesley you are to right, I am normally drenched π. I have a bruise on my foot does that disprove Newtonβs theory?? π€·ββοΈπ definitely keeping my helmet on, never know what going to happen next π³π΄ββοΈ
Glad the trip is going well (other than the apple!). Always good to read your blog. Very poignant photographs.
Thank you Elaine.
Hi Wendy
Thanks for the blog, glad you finally made it to France. The photos are great,
Sorry but I did have to laugh when I read about the apple incident.π€£
Dx
Thank you Doreen, havenβt say to say the apple incident was quite funny π€£
Awesome experience to visit and remember the Fallen. It is a very emotional experience and should be on the school curriculum - more important than a visit to Drayton Manor or a goat cheese factory?
Totally agree it shld be included in the school curriculum. Definitely more significant than Drayton & goats cheese x
And to think that having landed and fought their way off the beaches, survived the bullets, mines and booby-traps, they had to get up the next day, and the next (for however long) and do it all over again. We owe them all, those who died and those who lived, a tremendous debt.
It is difficult to comprehend how those very many men actually survived physically & mentally. The Standing with Giants exhibition is incredible, 1476 silhouettes and so powerful π’
Definitely on my list of things to do. My children went on a school trip to Disneyland many years ago and they stopped at the beaches on the way. Both of them said the beaches/cemeteries were the βbestβ part of the trip and made a lasting impression
Well worth the time and energy spent doing it. The tracks & trails are a great way to do it if you come on the bike. Road bike no good, the gravel bikes have been perfect for the trip
