So testing done, only one thing for it really, try newly acquired “stuff” away from home π«£ I mean what can possibly go wrong?
Campsite booked (a whole new experience) I’m meeting up with Norman and Hazell; (she is also cycling with Norman on his quest), at Breedon on the Hill, Derbyshire so we can compare notes and generally see how things go.
I've got my teabags and I'm ready...... for what I'm not sure but here goes π΄βοΈπ
I should have realised that Breedon-on-the-Hill was on the top of a hill, clue is in the title really π€¦βοΈ. Good practise for cycling the Welsh coast β°οΈ. It’s not far from home, so if anything goes wrong and my OH needs to come and rescue me…..
Arriving at Breedon was an experience, only some 34 miles (54 kms) with just 1500 ft (487 metres) of ascent.
We cycled past a young man who appeared to be unconscious at the side of the road, Richard dialled 999 π and we waited for the Ambulance to arrive. We did gather that his name was Jude, he's 16 & from Leicester. Fortunately a lady who was a nurse π©βοΈstopped and assisted. The Ambulance arrived & we carried on. Fingers crossed he is ok π€
Fab coffee stop at the Tropical Bird Sanctuary, I can recommend the carrot cake - delicious π. At Worthington, we joined the Cloud Trail Greenway to Tonge (it goes all the way to Derby). Arrived at our campsite. Fortunately without any further incidents π
Tent put up, Richard saved the day & came to the rescue with his pump connection to inflate my tent. Schrader valve needs to be in the bag & not left at homeπ€ͺ
Supper in the pub & an early ish night under the stars π
We passed 2 of these round houses, the one at Breedon used to house prisoners on their way to/from court or jail π±. Well that cannot have been a pleasant experience!
I can definitely recommend the pub in Breedon, I think it's called the 3 horseshoes, very nice fish & chips.
Whilst Breedon is a lovely village, it is unfortunately rather close to East Mids Airport, so the campsite website promise of peace & quiet leaves a little to be desired. However, waking up to the dawn chorus π¦was glorious, a cloudless night did mean lots of stars π and a beautiful start to the day π
No bears π» or other wildlife attacked us during the night & if they did I must have slept thru it π΄
Back home after some 32 ish miles (51 kms) as I did slightly more descent than ascent to get here I had more ascent to get home 1700 ft & 519 Mtrs (approx) π₯΅.
A fab trip & a steep learning curve, camping cherry popped π thank you for reading
