Last night a couple of us decided to try a local Tuscan dish from the menu. Oh my days, it was huge! We thought it was lamb, but in actual fact it was a "pork knuckle" served with Tuscan style potatoes & salad. I've never tasted anything like it. It was delicious. I didn't finish it, it was just to much food.

Today was tough. I covered 27.6 miles (44.5km) 2,279 ft (693m) of ascent, with a few belting 18% climbs π± so just under 1/2 of what what I expected to do. The heat got the better of me, so I did the sensible thing & called it a day (not like me I know). The views were spectacular, rolling hills a good description. All is good & I'm now in a beautiful room with wild jasmine growing around the door, it smells divine.
Tomorrow we have 3 options:- ride all day, ride part of the day & take the funicular railway, or have a rest day. So I'm taking a rest day π. It would seem that most of the group are doing the same. So we get to explore Siena, take bus/train to Orvieto & explore there as well.

Random information for today is "The Palio di Siena" it is a traditional medieval horse race run around the Piazza del Campo twice each year, on 2 July and 16 August. The event is attended by large crowds, and is widely televised . Ten randomly selected from 17 Contrade, vie for the trophy: a painted banner, or Palio bearing an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Cathedral is Siena is beautiful, so it's going to be lovely to explore this much talked about town. Thank you for reading, have a lovely evening.

That certainly sounds like hard work , climbing all those hills , you deserve a rest and explore day xx
Sounds yummy / glad you decided to have a rest day - need to look after yourself and then go back stronger x
Thatβs aLOT of climbing. Well done for doing the sensible thing. That takes more courage than anything else.
Enjoy your day of rest and exploring x
I think they may have overdone it with the salad π³π¬π
I'm guessing you still have lots of miles and plenty of hills to go, so rest day seems a good idea...
Heat must be a novelty on one of your Peak Tours! We had a day of rain going into Siena, followed by a day of drying out. Both Pistoia and Siena are beautiful. Take time to enjoy tomorrow xxx
